The Kibera slum on the outskirts of Nairobi is an area about the size of a large council estate with well over a million people living there. it is probably the largest slum in the world!
It is growing at such a fast rate that central government and local authorities are unable to cope with the demand for provisions such as shelter, water, waste disposal, basic medical care and education.
People from rural areas travel to the city to find work to earn money to feed their families. Unfortunately the dreams often become nightmares as whole families end up living in the slum in appalling conditions. Over a million people live in 2 square kilometres of space!
SoapBox has been working in the Kibera Slum for several years with project partner Pastor Evans.

This year we are planning to help him to start the relocation a Primary School to a site just outside of Kibera and also do some work in the High School. In addition we hope to be running a children’s activity programme some afternoons. A couple of short videos of Kibera are available in the Videos section.
We will also take you on a Safari to a game reserve where you will see wild animals in their natural habitat. An experience of a lifetime. You may also visit local markets and the Von Blixen Museum.
