SoapBox Short Term Projects Kibera School Play

Kenya - Kibera 2

Margaret has plans to expand the school in Mashimoni and has asked that a SoapBox team come and help with this project.

This is what Margaret says about the team’s visit. “The team will be involved in carrying out much needed repair work on the existing buildings including painting and probably some landscaping. There will be lots of involvement with the local children.”

This is a very worthwhile project that will make a huge difference to the lives of the children in this hugely deprived area. Be prepared to have your hearts melted by these lovely people.

This project directly follows the earlier Kibera project, potentially making a 5-week project. If you’re interested get in touch with Kathy and Shaun for a corresponding cost reduction.

In the Mashimoni district of the Kibera slum, SoapBox partners with Slum Outreach Ministries International under the direction of Margaret Kimuyu.

Margaret runs the Soapbox ChildCare operation in Mashimoni and looks after a small church and school in this very deprived area. When the riots occurred in early 2008 all of the cooking equipment from the school was stolen.

This event prompted SoapBox to initiate the Children of Kibera appeal which has raised several thousand pounds towards food and other vital needs with the children being the direct beneficiaries through SOMI.
