The first weekend in July (2-4) saw the gathering of the summer 2010 participants for their orientation weekend. Cefn Lea Park in Wales was the venue and the teams had a great time getting to know each other and preparing for their summer projects.

Manchester 10K Run

Very well done to Matt Fairhead our first SoapBox runner home in the Manchester 10k coming in at 43 mins 26 sec. followed by Brian Addis in 50 mins 49 sec.

SoapBox 'Just Looking' Event

SoapBox has been running a series of ‘Just Looking’ events around the country in order to give prospective applicants an opportunity to check out the various projects and SoapBox African Quest, mission trianing and spiritual development programme. Each event has been attended by SoapBox staff who have been on hand to answwer any questions that people might have. Brochures, DVD and application forms have all been available for folk to take away.
The next one of these is in Guildford. Here are the details:

SoapBox Director helps raise funds for Haiti

Some of you will know that SoapBox director, John Russell is also the lead guitarist with After The Fire, a rock band who in their heyday had a number 5 top 40 hit in the US with a song called Der Kommisar. The band does the occasional tour, that John calls their ‘Weekend Warrior’ tours but were recently called upon to help raise funds for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

Two concerts on consecutive nights saw the band help to raise over £1500 for the appeal. Lots more photos from the two events courtesy of Richard Dickins of RADfoto can be seen here.
